What is market intelligence?

Market intelligence is the information a company gathers and analyzes about the market it sells into: its size, segments, growth, competitors, customer needs and buying trends. Go-to-market teams use it to choose which segments to target, define the ideal customer profile, size the opportunity and position the company against its competitors.

What is the difference between market intelligence and competitive intelligence?

Competitive intelligence focuses on rivals: their products, pricing, positioning and moves. Market intelligence is broader and covers competitors along with market size, segments, customer needs and trends. Competitive intelligence is usually treated as one part of market intelligence.

What is market sizing?

Market sizing estimates how much revenue a market could support, often expressed as total addressable market, serviceable addressable market and serviceable obtainable market. It turns a target segment into numbers, which helps a company decide where to focus and how much pipeline a segment can realistically produce.

How does market intelligence help a sales team?

It tells sellers which segments and accounts are most likely to buy, what problems those buyers face, and how competitors are positioned. With that, a team can build target lists that match the ideal customer profile and write messaging that reflects real market conditions.
